Travel Diary: Siargao, Yes Please!

Hello! My friends and I can't deal when "Reasons why you have to visit Siargao Island" keeps on popping on our newsfeed in our social media and we kept on asking each other "when are we going there?" a hundred times.

Our Original Itinerary:

  • Cebu to Surigao via Ferry for 12 hours
  • Tour Surigao City courtesy of Hendrix
  • Surigao City to Siargao Island via Ferry for 4 hours

Sounds easy right? We can go straight to Siargao Island via airplane from Cebu, but not in my case, I have to ride all means of transportation to go there and it's all worth it!

So when we decided the dates, I said no because I have to be in my hometown in Southern Leyte for my friend's wedding, so I would not be able to join them in Surigao and so I missed the beautiful Mabuay Pebble Beach. Ugh.

When we finally settled our deal they will meet me in Surigao after the wedding. I got panic when Hendrix sent me a message that I should be in Surigao at 11AM because the last trip for Siargao Island is at 12NN! One thing I am not sure of in our hometown is the transportation. Dad told me that there are buses from Manila going to Davao that passed by our hometown so we have to wait for it.

The horror: I missed the Philtranco Bus at 7AM! I wanted to cry and wanted to give up. My brother told me to ride an Habal-Habal (motorbike transportation term) going to San Ricardo, Liloan is far. I called our family friend Amores to give me a lift and good thing he was on the go! Adventure time!

Helmet and Jacket borrowed from my brother. HAHA! Look at my luggage tied up tight.

My Itinerary:

  • Hinunangan So. Leyte to San Ricardo, Liloan Port via motorbike for 2hrs
  • Liloan Port to Surigao City via Ferry for 1 hour
  • Surigao City to Dapa Port, Siargao Island for 4 hours

My friends itinerary was a bit hard, due to fully booked ferry going to Surigao they have to go to:
  • Cebu to Butuan City via Ferry
  • Butuan City to Surigao City via Land trip (they took multicab for an expensive price, but whatever they just paid for it for less hassle)

When we reached Liloan, we still have 45KM to reach the port of San Ricardo, whew! I was thrilled if we can make it on time.

Tadaaah! Yes we made it on time! Here are my expenses:

  • PHP500 fee for driver
  • PHP300 for gasoline
  • PHP200 ticket for ferry Montenegro Shipping Lines for 1 hour trip.

Surigao Port

Loser, I just passed by Surigao City going to another port for our trip to Siargao Island. Ready for 4 hours trip!

Finally arrived at the island. We signed up on their tourist desk with our names and our van was waiting outside the port for another 30 to 45 minutes ride to General Luna, Siargao Island!
